SCRAP METAL - The 80's Are Still Alive!
On Saturday December 15th, Mike, Brian and Tom once again headed downtown Nashville, TN to the Wildhorse Saloon.
Also with them were two very special guests, Kevin Sweeten (Mike's long time friend) and Jennifer McKell (a friend from Live Nation).
We went to experience the All Star 80's metal band, Scrap Metal. On this night Scrap Metal consisted of Mark Slaughter (Slaughter), Gunnar and Matthew Nelson (Nelson), Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger), Jimi Jamison (Survivor), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple), and a couple of highly experienced side musicians (Gary Corbett and Joel Hoekstra).
If you are a fan of the Top 40 metal 80's sound, this was the place to be. We have seen most of these guys before, but we never have seen Nelson (which were excellent).
All the members of the band showed their very best work and the band showed they can play each others tunes perfect.
Mark Slaughter shined on the guitar and of course his high pitched vocals.
Kelly Keagy showed he can pound the drums with the best of them as well as sing the high notes when necessary. Kelly also did an excellent job getting everyone involved in the Night Ranger sing-a-longs.
Gunnar and Matthew Nelson were the big surprise of the night. They can play, harmonize, and have fun with the crowd. I loved it when Gunnar said most of the people in the crowd can sing and play better than us because they were in Nashville (I don't think so).
Jimi Jamison and Joe Lynn Turner sang several songs that woke up our memory from Survivor, Rainbow, and Deep Purple.
This wasn't a concert, THIS WAS A PARTY! Everyone sang along nearly every song. The guys were super nice to everyone at the Meet and Greet backstage after the show.
Special thanks to Mike Davis and his staff at the Wildhorse Saloon for setting all this up for us. Listen to the fun we had before the show, during the show, and after the show!
What A Great Night!

SHAW / BLADES THE BEST ACOUSTIC TOUR!
On Saturday December 8th, Mike, Brian and Tom once again headed downtown Nashville, TN to what seems to be our home turf of 2007, The Wildhorse Saloon.
Also with them is Special Guest, Joe Nelms. This time we are here to see an All Star Acoustic concert, Shaw / Blades. This is actually Tommy Shaw of Styx and Jack Blades of Night Ranger. Also with them was backing guitarist / singer, Will Evankovich.
This was a fun night from the beginning to end. Meeting the fans, the band, and running into Kelly Keagy of Night Ranger in the crowd.
The sound was excellent, the crowd was singing and the After Show Party was also fun.At the party we ran into Will Evankovich for a quick talk. There were many Nashville songwriters and musicians also there. The best part for us is when Mike took the stage to help sing backup on California Dreaming (along with Kelly Keagy). Mike said, "What a night, I got to sing with the two singers of Night Ranger and the leader of Styx!" (This was also Mike's birthday weekend - The Big One - 50!).
Tommy and Jack made fun of each other, told road stories of Ted Nugent and Stephen Stills, and harmonized like no one else!
Special thanks to their publicist, Amanda, the tour manager, Jason, and of course Mike Davis and his staff at the Wildhorse Saloon for setting all this up for us. Listen to the fun we had before the show, during the show, and after the show! We Had A Great Night and Look Forward to Doing it All Over Again!

STYX - BRINGING BACK THE MEMORIES
Nashville, TN 10/17/2007
It was October 17th, another Wednesday night at the World Famous Wildhorse Saloon. On this particular night one of our favorite bands from our teenage years through today was performing
STYX. We have always said that Tommy Shaw is one of the most talented individuals in the music business and he proved it once again that night. Tommy is one of the best singers, songwriters, guitarists, and front men around.
The first time Mike and Tom seen Styx perform was in St. Louis, MO at Bush Stadium. They were touring on the success of The Grand Illusion album. It had been out a while, so most all the songs on the album (or 8 track tape during that time) were hits. Mike and Tom (as teens) were very excited to take the trip from Nashville, TN to see STYX in a Stadium with more than 70,000 other fans! They were also excited about the other acts on the bill. They were big fans of every act on the bill; Angel, Eddie Money, and Blue Oyster Cult. Although all the acts were good, that night STYX was terrific and had everyone on their feet in the entire stadium. Every since then, weve tried to see Styx in concert every time they performed in Nashville.
Now it has been nearly 30 years later and Styx still has the energy they did back then. Although we had never seen Styx without Dennis DeYoung, his absence didnt make a difference in their show. With Lawrence Gowan on the keys and vocals (of the Dennis DeYoung songs), the show was top notch. We ranked this show the highest Concert Blast Scale rating this year.
Enjoy the show as Mike, Brian, and Tom, along with their special guests, Justin Arnold (Mikes son), and Tim and Cindy Baines (Tim is actually the Sr. Minister where Mike attends church) bring the pre-show, post show, and concert review to all of you who couldnt attend one of the best shows on the concert circuit!
Special Thanks to the Management of Styx for providing the Meet and Greet with the band and a photo pass for Brian. As Always, thanks to The Wildhorse Saloon for the wonderful hospitality and for believing in our podcast!

REO SPEEDWAGON ROLLS INTO NASHVILLE
On Tuesday night October 2nd, 2007, Mike, Brian, and Tom (along with Special Guest & friend, Mike Fulghum) headed downtown Nashville, TN to the Wildhorse Saloon.
It was time once again to allow the Wildhorse Saloon to renew our senses from our teenage years.
This time it was REO Speedwagon. Actually REO was the very first concert that Mike witnessed as they opened for Grand Funk Railroad in 1973.
We watched REO grow from an opening band (and a club band) into headlining stadiums across the country, as Mike seen REO headline an all day concert in Memphis Stadium (with opening acts, Joan Jett, Survivor, and Kansas).
We watched REO change singers and bring back Kevin Cronin to watch their popularity and hits soar!
Brian and Mike also watched REO step into a last minute headline spot in Nashville, TN as the J. Geils Band had to cancel a concert due to an illness.
The best memory of REO Speedwagon for us was when they headlined a concert (with opening act The Little River Band), on the Lake Beach of Hermitage Landing (now called Nashville Shores) in Nashville back in the 70's.
This is when the band started to play "Ridin the Storm Out" as the dark clouds were moving in on our concert activities.
As the band played through the song, the Storm Clouds moved right in on the fun as lightning was in the air and Heavy Heavy Rains poured down on us.
The PA system went out, the band kept playing, and the crowd sang the song. That is one video we would love to see again!

NIGHT RANGER ROCKS NASHVILLE
On Wednesday night September 12th, 2007, Mike, Brian, and Tom headed to the Wildhorse Saloon again in their hometown of Nashville, TN.
They were there to witness one of the best rock shows that came out of the 80's... NIGHT RANGER.
The guys from Night Ranger, the staff, the publicist, and the management were super friendly to us!
We thought we would enjoy the concert, but we had no idea we would Love it.
The Night Ranger show was one of the best we've seen this season. Great musicians, and a great setlist.
We highly enjoyed the concert, but also Brian and Tom enjoyed the interview with Kelly Keagy and Brad Gillis.
Unfortunately Mike showed up later to the Wildhorse and the interview was in progress when he arrived.
The guy guarding the backstage door refused to let Mike in (someone he never met), so he missed out on the interview.

PAT BENATAR RETURNS TO NASHVILLE
On Thursday night September 6th, 2007, Mike, Brian, and Tom headed to the Wildhorse Saloon again in their hometown of Nashville, TN. This time to attend our first ever
pre-show sold out show at the Wildhorse Saloon. We were there to see Pat Benatar and her guitar hero husband, Neil Geraldo (or is it Giraldo?). What a surprise we had!
We had no idea that Pat and Neil were so talented and would perform such an excellent concert. When we arrived, we heard the dreaded words over the PA
Photography, Audio, or Video recording will not be allowed for tonights performance." This was the first time we had heard this at the Wildhorse.
Brian and Mike went to find the tour manager and explained who and what Concert Blast is all about, he was not interested.
He actually said, You can take pictures of anything and anyone, as long as it is not of Pat and Neil and during the concert. Brian was heart broken.
The tour manager did tell Mike he could record talking to the fans before and after the show, but no recording during the show at all.
Although recording the fans did help produce a better show, its not our usual with the live concert clips.
When Tom and Mike started the show, Billy Burnette (formerly of Fleetwood Mac and a solo artist) walked in the front door of the Wildhorse Saloon and walked right up to us and started a conversation (a great guy).
After Billy left, Mike and Tom went walking through the crowd and ran into Jeff Labar (lead guitarist for Cinderella) and his wife Debby (The Labars have a fun internet live radio show with a chat room on www.RealityRadio.biz ).
Mike, Tom, and Brian always enjoy hanging with The Labars. Once the show started, everyone was singing at Pats command. Her voice really shined in the song, We Live For Love
WOW!
About mid way through the show, security came through and cleared a path through the crowd to the front, center portion of the stage as Martina McBride and her husband were escorted to their seats.
Martina has a great voice, but Pat Benatar can stay with her (I would say better) as they sang together on the first encore song, Promises in the Dark.
After the show, Pats bass player(Mick Mahan) came out to talk to Concert Blast and Jeff Labar. Although the cold-hearted tour manager wouldnt allow recordings, photos, or a Meet and Greet with Pat and Neil, we still had a wonderful time.

HARD ROCK AT THE WILDHORSE SALOON

LOUD Hard Rock music filled the air and many hard core fans ignored the tables and chairs as they got into all three of these 80s rockers.
I must say this is also the loudest crowd we've ever heard at the Wildhorse. It was great to see special guests joining the artists on stage

THE 100th PODCAST!
THE NEW CARS CRASH INTO NASHVILLE!
On Friday July 2, The Wildhorse Saloon continued with their Classic Rock Series by bringing one of our favorite bands to town, The New Cars. Tom and Mike attended this great concert, but unfortunately Brian was out of town.
In May of 2006, Concert Blast had the wonderful opportunity to review their very first show as The New Cars in Tunica, MS. There is no comparison on the concert we saw last year versus this concert we saw in July of this year at The Wildhorse Saloon.
They have gotten a lot tighter and found a lot of energy.
While the band was good, Todd Rundgren was GREAT! Everyones memories of the 80s were jolted as the band ran through most every hit The Cars had. Todd Rundgren performed some of his classics, and The New Cars performed a couple originals.
This was the first time The New Cars performed in Nashville, TN, but many people in the crowd had seen them before and traveled to Nashville, TN that night to see them again. The Wildhorse Saloon was packed that night and the crowd was ecstatic!
Listen to our night of talking to the enthusiastic fans, reviewing the concert, and attending the After Show Party. There are conversations with Elliott Easton and Prarie Prince of The New Cars, and Mike Davis of The Wildhorse Saloon.
LISTEN and ENJOY!

43 minutes 38 seconds - 39.9MB
JOHN WAITE IS BACK ON HIS FEET AGAIN!
Thursday June 7th Mike and Tom headed back down to the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN to attend the John Waite Concert.
Mike and Tom were invited backstage to have a short interview with John before the show. Unfortunately, they had technical difficulties with their
recorder and didn't realize it until the interview was over and John had went back to his dressing room. Mike, being the technical person that night, was sick
about the whole ordeal. It took Mike and Tom a while to calm down enough to enjoy the concert. Once John started his set and showed the range with his vocal
ability, they began to enjoy the show... THANKS JOHN!
Mike and Tom also surprised a fan of Concert Blast. They phoned Rosie from New York and surprised her by putting her on the phone with John Waite.
Rosie thought she was going to be talking to the guys. They asked her who was her favorite male singer and she said John Waite. John was surprised when he heard that and then he spoke up and talked to her on the phone.
Tom and Mike also met the lead singer of the Naked Beggars, Inga Brittingham (wife of Eric Brittingham of Cinderella and also in her band).
She was so much fun and got Mike singing Baby's songs at the after show party.

On Friday night, June 1st, Mike and Brian went to the famous Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN to attend The Romantics / The Producers concert.
The Wildhorse saloon is a neat, clean, and organized place to see a show. Although we've been to the Wildhorse many times in the past, this is
our first time to attend a rock concert there. They have focused on having many Classic Rock concerts and we are very excited about it.
Listen as we enter the 2,000 seat club, talk to the staff, interview Wally Palmer of The Romantics, cut up with the rest of the guys in the band, and Review the Concert.

On Saturday afternoon, May 12th, Mike drove to downtown Nashville to catch part of the Crawfish Boil Festival at Riverfront Park.
The main reason to attend the festival was to see the opening act on Saturday, Whiskey Falls. Whiskey Falls is a new act in the country music genre.
Mike was very impressed with their ability to harmonize (4 part harmony). Mike agreed with Rick Burgess of the Rick and Bubba Show as he compared their sound to the Eagles or CSN&Y.
Mike thought he was arriving an hour early, but discovered they changed the schedule and Whiskey Falls were already on stage. Tom and Brian were schedule to arrive later, so they missed the Whiskey Falls concert and the interview.
Mike had to handle this show all by himself. After Mike heard their live performance, he predicted they would win the Horizon Award and Vocal Group of the Year during the CMA Awards next year!

Saturday morning, Mike, Brian, and Tom headed to Atlanta, GA, actually Peachtree City, GA which is 30 miles south of Atlanta, to cover the Paul Rodgers (THE VOICE for Free, Bad Company, The Firm, Queen + Paul Rodgers, and now solo) concert.
The guys said this was one of the best concerts they have seen in a while so they decided to move this concert review to this weekend.
The concert was at a venue they've never attended before, Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheatre. The 2500 seat amphitheatre was in a park type setting and there is not a bad seat anywhere.
They are looking forward to going back there again soon.
The fans were super friendly (as they always are in GA), the staff went out of their way for them, and Paul Rodgers couldn't have been any nicer (on stage and backstage).

They discuss various bands and songs in both the secular world and the Christian world. Emails are read, Live Clips are played, and our opinions are expressed.
WARNING: There were technical difficulties during the first 15 minutes or so of talking with the mics. They discovered the problem after they were half way through the recording.
Since Tom had to pick up someone at the airport at a certain time, they couldn't redo the first portion. Our Apologies!
