RAY DAVIES PERFORMS KINKS & SOLO!
It was Wednesday, December 3rd when Ray Davies visited Nashville, TN again to perform another solo set.
This time he was on our home turf, The Wildhorse Saloon. Brian and Tom were at the show (Mike was out of town) to cover the review.
To our surprise, Ray mainly performed an acoustic show. Ray’s set list consisted mainly of older Kinks music with a few solo songs.
Brian and Tom enjoyed Ray’s show very much, with the exception of not playing a few of the Kinks hits.
Ray is a master storyteller and knows how to get the crowd excited.
Listen to our review as Brian and Tom run through the Ray Davies set list and give their opinion of the show on the Blast Scale.

SHOW 153 - REO SPEEDWAGON INTERVIEW AND REVIEW
Show 153 - Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
(to download... right click on the above title, then select "Save Target As")
48 minutes 29 seconds - 44.3MB
THE 153rd PODCAST
REO SPEEDWAGON RETURNS TO NASHVILLE!
Mike, Brian, and Tom were looking forward to another energetic REO Speedwagon show.
The guys have been huge fans of REO since the early 70s.
REO Returned to the Wildhorse Saloon Saloon this November to another packed house with people coming in from all over.
This night was extra special because Mike received a phone call from Kevin Cronin (lead singer of REO) earlier that day to say "Lets get together for an interview".
All three guys were very excited to get to talk to Kevin, but when it came down to it, their Road Manager only allowed one of them to conduct the interview.
Mike was selected since Kevin called him and away he went backstage to talk to Kevin before the show.
We didn't know that Bruce Hall and Dave Amato were also going to join in on the fun.
The night was extra special as Mike, Brian, and Tom were invited to attend the After Show Party to talk to everyone.
REO was just as excited as the guys were. Listen to our conversations with every member of REO Speedwagon and our surprise backstage guest, Ryan Newell of Sister Hazel.
There's also a talk with opening act, Pistol, and Mike Davis (GM of the Wildhorse) as well as a quick recap of the night's set list.
Listen to our show as you go with us through our night and as we go through the REO Speedwagon set list.
Special Thanks To REO Speedwagon for the invitation, to the great staff of the Wildhorse Saloon, and to all the Concert Blast Listeners who come up to us to talk (many were from out of town).

Dave Mason with Very Special Guests, Poco at The Wildhorse Saloon and Leon Russell at 3rd and Lindsley.
Brian and Tom attended the Dave Mason show without knowing if they would have credentials.
Later that night, Mike Davis (GM of the Wildhorse) introduced Rusty Young to Brian and Tom which led into a great interview with great road stories.
Mike was invited to attend the Leon Russell show by our buddy, James Downing.
Since Mike was a huge Leon fan in the 70s, he had a wonderful time at this Sold-Out show.

FOREIGNER RETURNS TO NASHVILLE
WITH KIP WINGER!
Mike, Brian, and Tom were altogether for this great show at The Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN.
Kip Winger started the show with an acoustic set. Just Kip and a 12 string acoustic guitar.
Kip went through a few solo songs but his main focus was his Winger hits... acoustically of course.
Foreigner hit the stage with their high energy music behind the wonderful vocals of Kelly Hansen.
Foreigner had almost the exact same set list as their Wildhorse show in March, but their encore special guest stole the show (see the pics?).
Listen to the fun we had as we reflect on this Classic Rock Hit Filled Night!

THE TUBES - THE PRODUCERS - KEATON SIMONS
Mike and Brian had three different conversations on two different nights and at two different venues.
The Tubes and The Producers performed a show this past summer at The Wildhorse in Nashville, TN.
They met with The Tubes after their Meet and Greet with the fans before their set, and Wayne Famous of The Producers after their opening set.
Although Mike and Brian met with The Tubes, it seems that Fee Waybill (lead singer and character creator) was the only one to talk.
Mike and Brian also had a fun conversation with CBS Recording Artist Keaton Simons, before his set at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville.
Listen to the fun of all three conversations as they discuss and laugh with these artists.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND
RETURNS TO NASHVILLE
On Thursday, August 21st 2008, Bruce Springsteen returned to Nashville for another high energy show at The Sommet Center.
Mike and Tom reviewed the show, but on their own. The Springsteen office decided they were only allowing newspaper media to cover the show.
This means there was no photo pass and Mike and Tom had to purchase their tickets (WHAT?).
Since the show was Not sold out (not even close), Mike found a ticket broker getting rid of tickets fairly cheap (almost 2 for 1).
This show was much better than the last time he was in Nashville.
Mike claimed the last Nashville Springsteen performance was the reason it wasn't sold out, but this show was fun filled with engergy, surprises, many requests, and sing alongs!
Listen to our review as Mike and Tom step through the night's setlist and describe what was happening on stage. They also talk to the fans before and after the show.
It was also great to see our Blogger / Podcast friend, Aron Michalski from Parking In Bitterman Circle. Aron is also the stage left guitar tech for the Springsteen Tour.

HOOTIE & the BLOWFISH
It was Wednesday, July 16th when Hootie and the Blowfish took the stage at the Wildhorse Saloon.
Brian and Mike covered the show with their guest, James Downing (Tom had prior plans).
None of us had seen Hootie and the Blowfish before, but we were familiar with their songs.
We had no idea as to what to expect with this show, we all got very surprised!
We had no idea that Hootie and the Blowfish were the party band they were.
The show SOLD-OUT in a couple of weeks so everyone there was a true Hootie fans.
This was a fun-filled night of dancing and sing-alongs!

ANOTHER GREAT FESTIVAL
BIG SPRING JAM in HUNTSVILLE, AL
On Oct. 26th Tom Thompson, with helper Jay Beasley, headed south to Huntsville, AL for the Big Spring Jam Music Festival 2008.
Mike and Brian were not able to attend this great weekend event.
Big Spring Jam is an annual event that takes place outdoors.
There were three stages in which one was mainly for country acts, one for classic rock acts and one for alternative rock music acts.
The main country bands that performed consisted of Darius Rucker, John Rich, and Gretchen Wilson.
The classic rock stage consisted of Kansas, .38 Special and Styx and on the alternative rock stage were Shinedown, Buckcherry, Tantric, and T-Pain. The event was huge success with beautiful cool weather and just a great weekend to hear live music outdoors.Click below to listen to this great festival in Hunstville, Alabama.
We want to thank Hannah of the Big Spring Jam organization for arranging everything for us!
A note on our photography… The photographer we had arranged to use for this event had a sick child and couldn't make it.

JOAN JETT JOINS DEF LEPPARD TOUR!
Whenever Concert Blast has an opportunity to witness a Joan Jett Concert, they are there (Especially Brian)!
It was a pleasure to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts again, but to see them on the same night as Def Leppard was a very special treat.
We saw Def Leppard in Nashville, TN a couple of years ago at Nashville's former Starwood Amphitheatre.
This time we saw them inside at Nashville's huge Arena, the Sommet Center.
It was great to see Def Leppard on the second show of the North American tour (and Joe's birthday).
Listen to our show as Mike and Brian walk through the set list of both acts and what was happening on stage.
Tom Thompson was out of town on vacation during this show (which he hated to miss).
We do want to thank Joan Jett's publicist (Julie) for arranging everything for us... AGAIN!

IT's HEART - IT's PAT BENATAR! - IT'S 2 SOLD OUT SHOWS!
Two of the greatest female led bands thrilled the fans at the Wildhorse Saloon this summer.
Of course we are talking about Heart and Pat Benatar.
Mike, Brian, and Tom were there (along with about 2,000 others at each show) as these two acts put on separate fabulous sold-out shows.
We put these 2 Concert Reviews together on one of our shows for a couple of reasons.
1) The setlists were very short. 2) We didn’t have much live coverage due to band restrictions.
These two points were our only complaints.
We loved the shows, but there were just too many hit songs left off the setlist. Listen as Mike, Brian, and Tom take you through the setlist of Heart and Pat Benatar.
We also interview Mick Mahan (bass player for Pat Benatar) and we run into Lee Beverly (bass player for Eddie Money). New rockers "Toni and Ash" also stopped by to say hi.
We do want to thank the publicists, management, and of course the wonderful staff at The Wildhorse Saloon.
A note on our photography… Brian’s PC crashed on him so he lost all of his pics (including the Pat Benatar show). Heart didn’t allow us to take pics, have our audio equipment, or join in on the Meet and Greet… We love them anyway!

JOURNEY / CHEAP TRICK THRILLS NASHVILLE!
It was Thursday August 7th 2008 when Mike, Brian, and Tom enjoyed the invitation from Journey to review the Journey / Cheap Trick concert as the tour makes their stop in Nashville, TN.
This was one show we were looking forward to cover for two reasons.
1) We are huge fans of Cheap Trick.
2) Although we are fans of Journey’s music, we really didn’t know what to expect with their new front man, Arnel Pineda.
Arnel proved himself to be the best front man Journey has had since Steve Perry left the band.
Not only did his vocals shine, but his energy proved to be exactly what Journey had been missing to make the band the excellent live act they were capable of being.
Listen to our concert review of the night as we step though the setlist of Journey and Cheap Trick.
If you have a chance to see this tour, don’t hesitate!
Special thanks to Live Nation, Journey’s management, Cheap Trick’s management, and all the nice fans who said hi to us. It was also nice to watch the show with Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger) and his wife Monique (super nice people).

KENNY LOGGINS PACKS THE WILDHORSE AGAIN!
On Friday, August 22nd Mike, Brian, and Tom headed back to the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville, TN to witness a show they had never seen before, Kenny Loogins in concert.
The place was packed (if not sold-out) and every person there was a true fan.
Kenny came out acoustically, went to new high energy songs, transfered to a soulful sound, remembered the Loggins and Messina days, then rocked the house with songs from famous movies before saying farewell with his signiture goodnight song, "Forever".
Kenny pleased the crowd tremendously. Everyone there had a wonderful time and couldn't get enough. Kenny and the band had two encores, but if the house lights and music didn't come on, they would have screamed all night for encores.
Listen to Mike, Brian, and Tom as they bring the show to you from the concert review by going through the Kenny Loggins setlist.
A Special THANK YOU to the Wildhorse Saloon and the management of Kenny Loggins for allowing us to cover the show, but also to Kenny for being so nice to us and the others backstage after the show!
