Concert Blast was invited to cover the dual Classic Rock Headline Tour with STYX and YES. Being fans of both bands and having been covering Styx on every visit to Nashville for the last three trips, we were looking forward to another fun night of classic rock hits at Nashville’s newest amphitheatre, The Woods at Fontanel.
Mike Arnold, Brian Hasbrook, and James Downing were on hand to share the co-host podcast duties on this special night.
The night began with an acoustic set by an independent artist from California who was lucky enough to be on this historic tour. After a twenty minute set and a 15 minute set change, Yes took the stage to an enthusiastic crowd as Yes went through a nine song set that lasted an hour and twenty minutes that consisted of classics mainly from the Yes album and a new song from their newest project released in July. The highlight of their set was when the band performed the 80s hit, “Owner of a Lonely Heart” and their encore of “Roundabout.”

Once Yes left the stage, the crew had the Styx equipment plugged, tuned, and ready to go in about twenty minutes for a night of classic sing-alongs and familiar album cuts . Styx took the stage in an energized fashion that had the 5,000 fans in attendance on their feet and they remained there for the rest of the evening. There were too many highlights in their set to mention, so I will mention the weak point. The only weak point of the night was during the third song of the set as they performed one of their latest songs, “One With Everything“. The only reason it was a weak point was because most of the fans in attendance weren’t familiar with the tune… But the rest of the show made up for it.
