Paul McCartney Concert Review – Atlanta, GA – 08/15/09
Written by Mike Arnold
Atlanta Georgia’s Piedmont Park hosted Paul McCartney and his rocking band to a night of rock and roll for over 50,000 fans on August 15, 2009. This was a night where the old and young gathered together to enjoy hits from Paul McCartney, Wings, The Fireman, and The Beatles. I took the trip from Nashville, TN to Atlanta, GA to enjoy the night and since Concert Blast was selected as media to cover this special event, I decided to create a podcast from the evening. This concert was a benefit for Piedmont Park and was billed as “The Green Concert”. It was encouraged for everyone to take the Marta to the downtown area. They called this a “No Car” event. Everyone seemed to agree because there were empty parking lots.
I haven’t seen Paul McCartney perform since the Wings Over America tour and I must say that Paul McCartney still has the strength, energy, and endurance to perform a concert which lasted over 2 and 1/2 hours. I loved the setlist, although there would be a few changes if I were given the opportunity to create it. Overall the night was wonderful and when the 30 minute rain storm came, the fans kept rocking as if it wasn’t raining at all. The band members were excellent musicians with wonderful background vocals. Rusty Anderson: Guitar/Bass, Brian Ray: Guitar/Bass, Abe Laboriel Jr: Drums, Paul Wickens: Keyboards. Special Thanks to all who made it possible for Concert Blast to cover this concert; Aimedra Kelly of Piedmont Park, Holli Mattison of Live Nation, Paul McCartney’s PR Firm: MPL Communications, and of course Paul McCartney’s management.
