I have always said what an incredibly hard job it is to produce a show like the Grammys that tries to cover all the bases of what is out there in popular music today While the 54th Grammys was a very “classic” leaning show, there were lots of styles and variations included that gave it a well-rounded feel, almost to a fault – but more on that later. Really, it all comes down to this. When you open a show with “The Boss,” Bruce Springsteen, and end it with Paul McCartney, does anything else in the middle matter much?

Each year the Grammy Awards are one of the most watched, most loved AND most hated television programs of the year. For those who only like one type of music it can be frustrating to watch and walking the line to makes sure several formats get represented in the performances and awards is always a daunting task for the producers. This was my third year behind the scenes of the show and as I always like to do, here are my notes on this year’s show.

Spring is in the air and it’s the month of May! For the last 4 years, Concert Blast has taken the road trip to Memphis, TN to report on the Beale Street Music Festival as part of the city’s Memphis In May festivities. Below is a report from Tom Thompson on the Friday night excitement as he and a couple of his friends enjoyed the festivities. Although the Music Festival continues during the rain, unfortunately the guys were rained out for the Saturday and Sunday shows.
Starting off we would like to thank our friends with Memphis in May for their hospitality. As it turned out, Friday was forecasted for rains all evening. Arriving at the festival we encountered just some overcast skies but otherwise a beautiful Memphis evening.
